Very Nice

I haven't written a review in quite a while. But since you came out of your cave with this piece, the least I can do is come out of mine and write a review.

I've always enjoyed your cartoons, and this one is a magnificent improvement! The style is of course your own, though it's nice to see such detail in even the tiniest of background elements. The pacing of your story is very well done--a rarity of even the top weekly flashes. The length of your episode is also nicely chosen--not too long to get bored, yet does not fall victim to being t short as many episodic flashes tend to do. In addition to the great art direction and the pace of the storytelling, the voice acting really stands out as amazing. Andy does a great job, and Laura's small part looks promising (though her character appears as though she will be a burden :) ). And finally, the choice and detail to the music is equally magnificent--not overbearing and nearly unnoticeable at times which perfectly compliments the dialogue and on-screen action.

Congrats, AITD. I look forward to episode two and your other flashes in between.

AloneInTheDark responds:

Thanks a lot Rege. Reviews like this from another experienced animator are always interesting to read. I'm glad you could enjoy it buddy. I hope to see some stuff of you again also in the future!

Nice..

Very Nice. One of the best things in this animation was the timing. It didn't even have to be funny--the tempo was enough for me to keep watching even if it kept on going. More often than not I am forced to close a cartoon because it doesn't hook me in the beginning, but yours had very smooth timing both in the animation itself and keeping with the music.

Also, very Luis. As soon as I saw the opening screen I had to double check to see if I had accidentally clicked on a Luis animation without realizing it. They style was kept throughout the animation. It was only appropriate to see the pube cameo :)

Good work.

ConAir responds:

Thanks man, I've always been a big fan of yours whenever I'd see your part in a Time Trial or especially your part in One O'Clock Jump. I'm glad you liked the pacing of the whole thing and I'm also glad you left such a great review - thanks again!

Just when I thought you've hit a wall.

Well David, I'll be honest. I've admired you're work and you're style. However, recently I've felt that you may have exhausted you're theme, being that your other series seem very similar with just different chracters (although, I love the execution of the hand-drawn paper).

Then you hit me with this short. It's refreshingly different, yet eerily similar. It's easy to tell it's a "Firth Film," yet it seems to run perpendicular to your other shorts, which is very nice.

Nice work and thank you,
Rege

Nice Job

Pretty Slick and a nice style you have here.

I just really wanted to tell you that you have your perception wrong when he was running. Things in the foreground should move past the screen faster while things in the background move slower (the houses).

Keep up the good work!
Rege

Good Work

I liked it, this was pretty well done. I'd have to say that Butterfly Smasher and McBean had the sweetest animations with honerable mention to boxKitten. The others were sweet, but these jumped out at me. Overall, good job to everyone.

PS - It's the Foundations--forgot the "o." Also didn't give credit to the musicians that the entire flash is based upon in the actual flash movie (like, perhaps under "credits"). To each his own, I guess.

Okay...

Well, this was a worn to death idea, however it was executed smoothly. You obviously do know what you are doing in flash. High quality snapshots were also nice to see, but still, no graphical standpoint at all, hence the zero.

The sounds was well recorded. It sounded like you may have spiked a few times with the yelling, but for the most part, the voice overs were well recorded and free of hiss.

That about ends it. The story didn't do it for me, it wasn't funny, nor even a parody of LOTR in the first place. A parody is a mockery of a work, this was just a dumb story with snapshots from the movie, it could have been any movie's snapshots with the same dumb story.

I realize from reading the reviews, that people are going to mark this unhelpful, eventhough it is an honest and a full review free of anytype of prejudice or hatred. But what can you do.

PS (unrelated to the movie and score), but your website sucks. Get rid of the buggy javascript and frames.

You got the Roger Moore..

Hudos for getting the Roger Moore, the third best James Bond, for the voice. I thought it was exceptionally voiced (this was before I read the comments--and so there it was).

The animation was smooth and very nice. The style was simplistic, yet it was pulled off flawlessly.

The story was cliche, but then what santa/christmas/holiday tale is not?

Good job!

Oh man, you're kidding?

My friend, your setup is great, format is perfect (reminds me of old Looney Tunes cartoons), but you have to be kidding with the time. 2 minutes? This is no way for a 16-minute story to be told. Three would be ideal, perhaps 4 depending on content, but 8 episodes @ 2 min each!? This one isn't paced out well for two minutes. I have no real enthusiasm to watch the previous episodes, or see the next one except for your fairly good animation skills and professionalism.

Good Job, but ditch the two minutes idea...

tmray responds:

I’m starting to get the impression that my cartoons are too short. :)

But seriously I truly appreciate all the comments I’ve received. I just discovered this site a week ago and it’s great. As far as my current cartoon goes, when I first started this project as you can figure out it was a 16 min. story and even I am not going to watch a web cartoon for 16 minutes. So based on my short attention span I just thought I would break it up in to episodes like the “Rocky and Bullwinkle Show” and in my head 2 min. seemed like ample time. But I am quickly learning that the public has a longer attention span that I do. (Which is a good thing.) In the future I will mend this decision from the great input I have received from this site.

Sadly, this particular series is already is so far into production that it will finish out in the 2 min. format. But! I really love the incite and comments that I received and will use them towards my future cartoons. (Except for the guy that called me a “fuck-tard” on Episode 1 for mis-posting the movie as a game at first.)

Hmmm...

Well, this wasn't a bad movie, but I think you have categorized it wrongly.

It's not a parody of cliche-ridden corny love stories.. it is a cliche ridden corny love story. There's really not much parody-ing going on, nor would I catagorize it as a comedy.

That being said, it's not a bad movie, I just wasn't really expecting what I got.

Also, I realize you made it fit the song, but it was entirely too long...

dookiemoole responds:

see, to do that instead of making the cliche's extremely exaggerated i just make it exactly like one just so people can realize how stupid these things really are

Umm...

Didn't you do the whole atkins thing already? Are you really that plum-fuked out of idea that you are recycling your old shit? Weak, man. Write something new, for chrissake. Make a story; make a plot; most of all, make something worth watching.

Atleast you're animating a little more with the arms.
