Very Nice

I haven't written a review in quite a while. But since you came out of your cave with this piece, the least I can do is come out of mine and write a review.

I've always enjoyed your cartoons, and this one is a magnificent improvement! The style is of course your own, though it's nice to see such detail in even the tiniest of background elements. The pacing of your story is very well done--a rarity of even the top weekly flashes. The length of your episode is also nicely chosen--not too long to get bored, yet does not fall victim to being t short as many episodic flashes tend to do. In addition to the great art direction and the pace of the storytelling, the voice acting really stands out as amazing. Andy does a great job, and Laura's small part looks promising (though her character appears as though she will be a burden :) ). And finally, the choice and detail to the music is equally magnificent--not overbearing and nearly unnoticeable at times which perfectly compliments the dialogue and on-screen action.

Congrats, AITD. I look forward to episode two and your other flashes in between.

AloneInTheDark responds:

Thanks a lot Rege. Reviews like this from another experienced animator are always interesting to read. I'm glad you could enjoy it buddy. I hope to see some stuff of you again also in the future!

Nice..

Very Nice. One of the best things in this animation was the timing. It didn't even have to be funny--the tempo was enough for me to keep watching even if it kept on going. More often than not I am forced to close a cartoon because it doesn't hook me in the beginning, but yours had very smooth timing both in the animation itself and keeping with the music.

Also, very Luis. As soon as I saw the opening screen I had to double check to see if I had accidentally clicked on a Luis animation without realizing it. They style was kept throughout the animation. It was only appropriate to see the pube cameo :)

Good work.

ConAir responds:

Thanks man, I've always been a big fan of yours whenever I'd see your part in a Time Trial or especially your part in One O'Clock Jump. I'm glad you liked the pacing of the whole thing and I'm also glad you left such a great review - thanks again!

Oh man, you're kidding?

My friend, your setup is great, format is perfect (reminds me of old Looney Tunes cartoons), but you have to be kidding with the time. 2 minutes? This is no way for a 16-minute story to be told. Three would be ideal, perhaps 4 depending on content, but 8 episodes @ 2 min each!? This one isn't paced out well for two minutes. I have no real enthusiasm to watch the previous episodes, or see the next one except for your fairly good animation skills and professionalism.

Good Job, but ditch the two minutes idea...

tmray responds:

I’m starting to get the impression that my cartoons are too short. :)

But seriously I truly appreciate all the comments I’ve received. I just discovered this site a week ago and it’s great. As far as my current cartoon goes, when I first started this project as you can figure out it was a 16 min. story and even I am not going to watch a web cartoon for 16 minutes. So based on my short attention span I just thought I would break it up in to episodes like the “Rocky and Bullwinkle Show” and in my head 2 min. seemed like ample time. But I am quickly learning that the public has a longer attention span that I do. (Which is a good thing.) In the future I will mend this decision from the great input I have received from this site.

Sadly, this particular series is already is so far into production that it will finish out in the 2 min. format. But! I really love the incite and comments that I received and will use them towards my future cartoons. (Except for the guy that called me a “fuck-tard” on Episode 1 for mis-posting the movie as a game at first.)

Hmmm...

Well, this wasn't a bad movie, but I think you have categorized it wrongly.

It's not a parody of cliche-ridden corny love stories.. it is a cliche ridden corny love story. There's really not much parody-ing going on, nor would I catagorize it as a comedy.

That being said, it's not a bad movie, I just wasn't really expecting what I got.

Also, I realize you made it fit the song, but it was entirely too long...

dookiemoole responds:

see, to do that instead of making the cliche's extremely exaggerated i just make it exactly like one just so people can realize how stupid these things really are

Great.

Not sure if you read reviews or not, but i wanted to tell you that I watched this one on your site a while back. I love your style and humor. You've created a couple of great characters there.

Also, loved the Sublime snippet.. made my day.

jato responds:

thanks! glad you like the kegel series!

i try to read all of the reviews. but i usually only respond to those with questions. so... i think you have an implied question... ;-)

thanks!

Grade fairly, eh?

Well, while I enjoyed this piece, I certainly can't give it all tens, as the movie tells and reminds me not to do so. Instead, the scores below is what I think it deserves in each category, and the score to the right (overall) is what I think of it.

This should go on the front page, not because it's a high-quality flash, but because it's message is one that should be shouted from mountaintops, and heard by the dead... ok, so just within the Newgrounds community, but still.

This series has shown the faults, the misconceptions and the problems of Newgrounds, but moreso its users, and how to exploit them. You, sir, are a future micheal moore.. but probably not as fat, or as obnoxious in his laid-back unobnoxious way...

JujubeLock responds:

LOL Michael Moore? I think there is a slight difference between giving advice and exposing political inefficiencies. :P

Ahhh! Curse you.

Curse you for attracting all the users away from my earlier submitted teaser! Haha, just kidding.

This was magnificent. The music fit perfectly with the movie, absolutely magnificent. Infact, where is it from, I can't seem to put my finger on it.

I still can't decide whether I like your graphic style or not. You are a magnificent artist, but sometimes I feel that the vector-based drawing style of flash lends itself for cartoony-drawings, and your talent gats a little lost when it's forced to adapt. The scanned images/backgrounds were top-notch.

The story was also great. I love open-ended stuff that makes you feel/interpret and add your own explanation to what is going on and what the original intent was.

Great job! Congrats.

AloneInTheDark responds:

hey im sorry man but i bet there will be even better movies submitted tonight. Neway ur right, the artwork for this movie was a lil bit complicated to animate. Its not 'flash artwork'. But ur also wrong about 1 thing, i didnt scan the backgrounds in, i made them in photoshop. But hey, 50/50, not bad!

Good but...

First, let me say that I loved this flash, but I refuse to vote on it because I already voted on it about a month ago.

I really didn't see anything in this warranting a re-release. There was no major overhaul to graphics or sound and there was minimal change. A couple things were added, but that doesn't mean it should have been uploaded to the portal again.

Alright, so you didn't make top 50 on the first release like a couple of your reviews mentioned. You know what you do? You straddle up and work extra hard on the new Chapter Two and release an all-new, never-before-seen episode.

A few people said my first ever flash should go to the top 50, and I look back at it and laugh in disgust at how bad it was. It made an 3.83 it's opening week and was put on the front page, but never won an award, or status and is now lost in the portal ranked #745. So, what did I do? I worked on my skills and a new chapter that puts the first one to shame. I'm not gonna add a joke or two to the first one and re-release it.

Anyway, didn't mean to sound harsh. I love the series and am eagerly awaiting Chapter Two.

AngelnX responds:

um buddy, i think ur lying because the original release was only 2 weeks ago, but i think what ur talkig about was the trailer...so no further comments because u have no idea what ur talking about

you mean Kindergarten, with a T?

Very Nice. Nice dialogue, the cutting of the dialogue sometimes popped, but it was still very good. The conversations reminded me a little bit of Peanuts with the dialogue.

I had to mention this though: I do hope you know that it's spelled KINDERGARTEN, with a "T" not kindegarden. I just assumed you did it on purpose.

nathaniel2010 responds:

haha, yeah, uh.. i didnt think of it, i thought that was the way it was spelled, ha..

Finally some good claymation

Finally some clay with features that is smooth and professional. I was sick of watching featureless blobs of blue clay walk around and do nothing (albeit with funny dialogue). This claymation, and you the claymator, are the new clay-related flashes to watch out for. Great job!

toxicbomb responds:

ha cool. Im glad you like my animation. More will come! So watch out!
